ABOUT CASE//ZERO

Authored mysteries, conversational investigation.

CASE//ZERO is a browser-based detective game built around a simple idea: AI can make interrogation feel natural without being allowed to change the answer.

Why the game exists

Many mystery games give players a fixed list of dialogue choices. That makes the story controllable, but it can also make interrogation feel like a menu. CASE//ZERO takes a different approach. Players can ask suspects questions in their own words, challenge them with reviewed evidence and decide which contradictions deserve attention.

The flexibility stops at the boundary of the mystery itself. Each case is authored with a predetermined culprit, motive, timeline and evidence chain. The AI layer performs the suspects inside that structure. It does not get to decide that a different suspect suddenly committed the crime because a conversation became persuasive.

Why evidence comes first

A good detective game should reward verification. A suspect can sound convincing and still be wrong. An innocent person can lie because they are hiding an affair, theft, professional mistake or other secret unrelated to the killing. CASE//ZERO deliberately uses that tension so the player has to distinguish suspicious behaviour from evidence that actually proves opportunity, motive and connection to the scene.

Malaysian settings

The current archive uses fictional locations inspired by Malaysian settings including Kuching, Miri, Petaling Jaya, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur, George Town, Sibu, Sandakan, Batang Ai and Johor Bahru. The aim is atmosphere rather than imitation. Businesses, victims, suspects and crimes are fictional, and the game is not intended to depict real criminal events or accuse real people.

Short, replayable investigations

Each attempt runs for ten minutes. That time limit is long enough to inspect a meaningful evidence set and interrogate several suspects, but short enough to keep pressure on the player's decisions. Progress, notes, reviewed clues and interrogation history can be saved to the player's account so the game works across devices.

Editorial principle

The mystery should remain solvable from the evidence. AI dialogue can add personality, resistance and uncertainty, but it should never replace the underlying logic of the case.
